Phil Lepanto
chief technology officer
As Chief Technology Officer, Phil is responsible for developing and managing customized web applications for Connections Media’s client projects.
Phil's approach stems from a firm belief that technology applications must be organic, evolving and adapting to meet new found needs and requirements. Systems and data management strategies must also rely upon the principle of portability over time, so that clients are never tied to expensive proprietary systems.
Over the past 14 years, Phil has designed, implemented, and managed a wide variety of web development projects for major political and public affairs campaigns. His career includes working for a software development firm, an internet services firm, and an international professional association. He has extensive experience with everything from very simple web sites, to highly sophisticated campaigns that utilize broadcast email, streaming video, and personalized web content delivery. Additionally, he has deployed web systems for document management, expense tracking, conference management, restricted access intranets, and the coordination of field and volunteer personnel.
At the very beginning of his career, Phil worked in the 1996 Alexander for President Campaign. There, among other things, he helped secure an Advisory Opinion from the Federal Elections Commission allowing campaigns to accept credit card contributions over the Internet. As this was the heyday of the Internet boom, Phil was quickly drawn to the challenges of developing and deploying technologies that empower campaigns and organizations to interact with stakeholders with high resonance and value.
Graduate of Vanderbilt University, Phil has been a proud District of Columbia resident since April of 1996. Since 1999, he has worked with Open Arms Housing to provide long term housing to women with a history of homelessness and mental illness. In November 2007, Phil was elected to serve as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in Mount Pleasant. Phil is also active in the Mid-City Business Association and serves as the Treasurer for the Mt. Pleasasnt Business Association. In his spare time, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, sailing and skiing. He has recently started to learn how to surf and speak Spanish. He and his wife, Katie, live in Mt. Pleasant with their cat, Purrple.
